New Year's Resolutions
These are my new year's resolutions: 1. Eat at a restaurant once a week or less (doing pretty good. So far haven't eaten at a restaurant since 2008). 2. Lose 10 pounds. Should help that Brian and I are taking a fitness class this semester, and maybe we can be more bikeshit when it starts to warm up. 3. Read House of Leaves. Andrew bought it for me for Christmas years ago cause I really wanted it. I never made the effort to concentrate on it. So I want to finish it this year. 4. Go at least 5 fun new places. Already have 1 and 2---Puerto Rico for Brian's birthday next month and Centralia, PA with Drew and Brian and maybe more of the family. 5. Start the Roth IRA that Drew and Dad told me I should (well, that is actually my resolution for before the end of January). 6. Fight less with Brian over stupid stuff. That's all for now...probably will update later. :) | | Sunday, May 18th, 2008 | | 10:13 pm |
Projects
We have been getting a lot done the past few weekends. Here are some projects that are in progress/almost done: We are planting vinca minor (periwinkle) ground cover in our mulch beds. I am tired of pulling weeds, and this should eventually grow in thick enough that it chokes the other weeds out. I weeded and planted the back and side of the neighbors house a week or so ago: This weekend, we mulched around all the trees: And got the vegetable garden almost done. We planted tomatoes, bell pepper, jalapeno pepper, cucumber, green beans, zucchini, sugar snap peas, red cabbage, black seeded simpson lettuce, spinach, and sweet and spicy mesclun. Sounds like a lot, but most of them are only a few plants. But for some reason the red cabbage came in packs of 9 plants. So we are gonna have a lot of red cabbage! :) We finished our hole for the dog poo. You dig a hole, drill some holes in & cut the bottom off of a plastic garbage can, stick it in the hole, put rocks in the bottom of the hole for drainage, and stick the lid on the garbage can. Then you dump the dog poo in there along with some water and septic system enzyme stuff. It's supposed to break down the poo, which should drain out the bottom of the hole. We'll see how it works. And finally, our pond and patio. Trying to make it pretty out there. The pond is almost done. Ordered a waterproof light to put in the bottom of the pond and 3 Japanese trapdoor snails to help with the algae. And still have to fix the brick around it a bit and find some more flat rocks to put over the pond edges. But I think it is looking pretty nice if I do say so myself. :) Projects left: finish weeding and planting vinca in mulch beds. make/install one of those dog trolley/leash runs for Claire and Eli. rip out stinky carpet in the whole place and put down vinyl floor. clean out garage. defrost/scrub fridge. finish spring cleaning. etc. :) | | Saturday, May 17th, 2008 | | 12:30 pm |

The newest addition, Chloe: The first few minutes she was inside, looking so scared. Hanging out with Claire. Eating kitty food. ...and with Brian. Kitty isn't so happy about her yet. Eli likes her. | | 12:08 pm |
The black porcelain family and the white porcelain family: Sold at Walmart, in case you want to get both. :) | | Saturday, March 8th, 2008 | | 10:08 am |
This was a few days ago with the ice storm: This was last night: So about a foot with some drifting. This is this morning: It's drifted to 3-4 feet by our neighbor's back door. All this and it's still snowing! It is about 10:30am right now, and it's supposed to continue until around midnight or so. At least I don't have to work until Monday night. :) Current Mood: chilly | | Saturday, March 1st, 2008 | | 2:59 pm |

The smell of clean sheets (not fresh-from-the-drier, still-smell-like-detergent clean, but the smell when they have been sitting in the closet for at least a few days) will always remind me of my mom. | | Saturday, December 15th, 2007 | | 2:32 pm |

Love her: :) http://blogs1.marthastewart.com/martha/I am going through a tea phase right now. Have always liked any kind of tea, but doing a whole bunch of different stuff now. Found a recipe for Cha Yen/Thai Iced Tea (which I am enjoying a glass of right now). Not as good as the Thai restaurants, but not so bad for something I made. Started drinking yerba mate. Heard about it on Get Fresh with Sara Snow. Not the most pleasant taste or smell at first, but it is growing on me. Also not so easy to find. Had to go to Trader Joe's, and they only sold one kind. Didn't really get to spend as much time in Trader Joe's as I would have wanted to (since I don't go there often)...it was way too crowded and was getting annoyed at the people who didn't know how to walk. Haha. Also got some fresh ginger and been drinking some ginger tea too. Hoping I can get this home health care job. Daytime hours without having to get up for a 7am shift. As much as I am a night person, this staying up aaalll night most of the time is starting to get to me. Especially since Brian is on days now. I feel like all I do is sleep in big chunks followed by no sleep for big chunks. I usually wake up (when I am not working) when Brian leaves around 6am or so. Then I am up all day, go to sleep early when sometimes I need to sleep the whole next day for work the following night. Which is why now, I am so tired. Woke up at 6am yesterday, and only took a 2 hour nap before work. Work again tonight, followed by probably sleeping most all of the day Friday, followed by work Sat/Sun. Don't know if any of that made any sense. Just want to get on a somewhat normal human schedule. That and get away from these nights of being responsible for 7-9 patients/human lives. Especially when one of them goes sundowner on us and thinks we are trying to kill him, and gets paranoid, pulls out IVs, tries to hit us, tries to get out of bed when he can't walk, and ends up in restraints with a sitter. Haha. At least I can't say my job isn't interesting. Alright, off to fall asleep to some QVC and do it all again tonight! :) Current Mood: tired | | Tuesday, August 21st, 2007 | | 8:51 am |
I still can't believe it has been three months since Cyle and Lilly died. Lilly died early in the morning May 15, and Cyle died early in the morning May 18 (when I was in State College at my brother's). I do wish I knew what happened to them. They must have gotten into something. I do miss Lilly, but we didn't even have her long enough for me to get real attached. But my Cyle, I still think about him and wish he would jump up next to me like he did all the time. :( And Charley and Cody just a couple months before that. It just doesn't make sense how three cats in one house can die within a couple months of each other, and my dad's/my dog too. Just not fair. Poor little guys. Maybe they just wanted to go see my mom. :) | | 8:40 am |
Animals
The newest addition to our family: His name is Eli after my grandfather. When I walked around the corner at the shelter and saw his big brown eyes, I just couldn't say no. And thanks to Brian for telling me to just get him instead of waiting a day like I was going to do. He joins the other two we already have, Carma (german shepherd/greyhound) and Claire (lhasa apso): and the kitties, Callie and Zoe (aka Chubsy): | | Monday, July 2nd, 2007 | | 10:58 pm |
Our mini 2nd of July celebration was fun. I HATE those June bug beetle things. They are all over the screen by our back patio. And, I am sooo addicted to Lime Tortilla chips. I prefer the Giant Eagle brand to Tostitos cause they have more lime (the Giant Eagle ones do). I have to make Brian take the bag from me or I would probably eat a whole family sized bag of them. | | 10:11 pm |
Early Fourth of July
Brian and I work July 3 and 4, so we are having an early 4th of July. He picked up the Phantom's Variety pack from Giant Eagle for $6.99. It has smoke balls, a grenade, smoke crackers, some mammoth smoke cylinder thing and the three best fourth of july things: sparklers, bang snaps (which are always so neatly packed in sawdust) and snakes. | | Sunday, April 8th, 2007 | | 5:47 pm |
Here are a couple pictures of our new kitties: This is Lilly. We kept the name she had at the shelter. She came home on antibiotics for an upper respiratory tract infection, which she shared with Callie and Cyle, who are now on antibiotics. She is a sweetie. Hates to have her picture taken, but she is really calm and mellow. This is Zoe (aka Chubsy). Her name was Flower at the shelter. She was there for almost a year without being adopted! Poor girl. She is still kinda skittish--very friendly and curious, but gets scared easily. Only cat who didn't catch the cold. We went to just get one cat, but ended up wanting to take both of them home. They are a great part of the family already. :) | | Saturday, April 7th, 2007 | | 4:54 pm |

Faucet Switch
This was a sink in the warehouse where I was staying in New Orleans. It was controlled by a light switch. It made me laugh. | | 12:32 am |
I was thinking the other day about different times from being younger I would love to be able to go back and re-live. 1. When my dad used to get home from work. If all us kids were inside at the time, all four of us would go hide and he would have to come find us. If we were all playing outside with the neighborhood kids, everyone would pile in the back of his pick-up truck. One of us would get to climb in the front seat on his lap and "steer" the car down the driveway while everyone else rode in the back. It is only a 10 second trip, but it was SO fun. 2. Playing hide-and-go seek, Ghost in the Graveyard, Kick the Can, Kickball...outside when we were younger. We had an awesome neighborhood. 3. Going to Vermilion and staying at the Linwood Lodge. No TV, ratty couches, hallways runner that turned your feet black, no huge tourist attraction, fly covered screens outside the bathroom. Just so fun. So many great people. The kitchen was awesome. The pies were awesome. I had my first crush there on Mike Beachy, who I still talk with every now and then. Haha. I really miss the feeling of being there. 4. Going to Camp Christian. Standing in line for meals. The summer Jill Malone fainted. The slip-n-slide: huge plastic tarps on a hill with garden hoses and dish detergent. I remember being really young and the place was so big, and how every year going back it seemed a bit smaller. 5. The awesome girl scout troup when my mom was one of the leaders. We would go to weekends at a place that had horse-back riding and a huge pond. Or weekends at COSI, the science center in Columbus that would shut down for a couple days and just have it open for the girl scouts. 6. Sitting on the kitchen counter in the mornings when I was a kid and making my dad's lunch with my mom. Always took a "mousey bite" out of the sandwich when we were done. Still do that when I make his lunch. 7. Walking on the paths in the backyard woods. And how hard it was to walk back up the hill after walking all the way down. Same with sledriding. 8. When I was really little, my dad would make a food face for me...a circle of colby cheese as the base, sliced green olives for eyes, cottage cheese hair and a face crabmeat strip as the mouth. 9. My mom's rice-egg-and-cheese for dinner. Or when she would say it was a "fend" night. And on and on...I had an awesome childhood. Thanks M-O-M and Dad-O. :) | | Wednesday, March 28th, 2007 | | 12:54 am |

Oh, and Brian's other (ex-step-) grandfather had a heart attack this past week and was in the ICU. AND Sarah has been having some vision problems and is having an MRI today to rule out a tumor or optic neuritis. Here's to hoping April is a bit sunnier. |
